Arbon – the charming lakeside resort
Arbon, the city of the wide horizons, is located at the east end of the canton of Thurgau, directly at the bicycle track of Lake Constance. Already a large ammount of people have settled down here. In 2011, Arbon became a UNESCO world heritage site , but one can also see how the more recent history has also left an impression on the former industrial city of Arbon. Arbon is directly located at Lake Constance. Its numerous park areas and over 3 km long walking trail along the lake invite pedestrians, cyclists and Inline-Skaters to stroll around and explore. Two boat harbors with modern infrastructure and a wide range of cultural events as well as interesting gastronomy complete this beautiful city.
Following museums in Arbon are worth a visit: Möhl museum, Saurer museum and the historic museum in the castle of Arbon.
The most popular attractions of Arbon are Roggwill Castle (dating from the 12th century), Castle Mammertshofen, the neighboring village of Steinach with the 500 years old ‘Gredhaus’ at the lake and the ‘Steinerburg or the beautiful old city of St. Gallen. A little further out in the surrounding areas. the Locorama in Romanshorn, the ‘Kartause Ittingen’, the museum of Napoleon, Castle Arenenberg, Connyland in Lipperswil and the planetarium in Kreuzlingen are all highly recommended.
The close by region of Appenzellerland with its charming hilly landscape at the foot of the impressive Alpstein and the picturesque principal town of Appenzell are also worth a visit.
